MONDAY
Spoken Word/Poetry

Instructor: IN-Q
In-Q started out as a neighborhood battle rapper, but quickly moved on to performing his pieces in front of poetry audiences. He was so well received that he became a staple on the scene, helping to popularize “Da Poetry Lounge,” the largest open mic night in the country. He will teach students how to express thoughts and feelings through spoken word, both written and performed. Students will participate in Art Share’s first Poetry Jam at the conclusion of the three month class. There are no rules except that students must be HONEST.

Acting 101
4:30-6:00pm
Instructor: Tiye Peterson
Acting 101, will focus on the three channels of communication, which are voice, face, and body! We will choose a creative monologue and work on it throughout the class. We will focus on a scene and discuss the breakdown of the scene to enhance the actors ability to connect with the character and the audience. We will do a series of warm ups to get the body ready for intense and fun work. This class will also give participants a strong experience of acting as they work towards an end of session class performance.

Entertainment Industry 101

15 & older ONLY
Students who are interested in acting, dancing, print and runway modeling, music and bands, make-up artists and stylists will prepare for entering the entertainment industry job market. Learn how to dress, walk and speak at an audition and touch on some key industry language. The end of the class will consist of actually bringing in professional makeup, hair and stylist to help the students prepare for a photo shoot. Each student will be photographed in downtown Los Angeles and/or shadow industry professionals.

Prerequisite: Level I- Entertainment Industry 101
This class will actively seek out open casting calls, submit images for representation and seek recording deals. Apply for beauty school, fashion school or performing art school and/or classes. Students must come to this class knowing what they want to do. With help from casting agents, modeling agencies, working actors and producers we will the do’s and don’ts of getting your career under way and critique current portfolios and head shots and produce “Press Kits”.

Hip Hop

“My style of Hip Hop is influenced by many forms of dance. One day I may throw in a little bit of break dance (a style b-boys use) popping (a style used by flexing your muscles), or even jazz funk (a style like jazz but more street). All of these styles will be incorporated into a more commercial hip hop form meaning the kind o f hip hop you see today in clubs and music videos.”
BALLET

Come experience diligent training of classical Ballet while experiencing Lyrical dance choreography. Students will learn French Ballet vocabulary, proper technique, endurance, strengthening and flexibility. Overall, students will obtain classical Ballet training, the discipline of dance, and excellent technique in order to help them develop greater ability and technique in all dance forms.

Hip-Hop/Jazz Theatre

This Class will give students the chance to tell their stories through the wonderful art of dance. Capturing their lives through dance this class will give a voice to the voiceless and allow the shy to be bold embodiments of the lives they live on a day-to-day. Trained in Jazz, Hip-hop & Modern dance, Eddejay will teach you how a story and a dance can become theatre. Come shake the shyness, storm the brain and have a dope time with Urban Dance Theatre!!!!

Studying styles from Jazz, Hip-Hop, Cabaret & Modern, Danyol & Octavia have a team-teaching flair that is sure to get you on your feet. You will learn the dance is NOT just about movement but an Attitude, a Place and definitely a Time. Film Studies: How Movies Work

We will look at several popular films, maybe a few you might not have heard of yet, and together we will figure out what makes a good movie so good. We will look at the choices that the filmmakers make, from writing the story, to casting, the way they use of camera, sound, editing and music and how all of these individual elements are pulled together to make one great and entertaining movie.

This class has a fun soulful & tribal feel. Jolieba teaches an exciting contemporary class deriving African and Latin based movement styles such as Afro Brazilian, Afro Cuban, Salsa, and West African dance. Students will learn foundation footwork, arm patterns, spine articulation, and polyrhythms. Feel the beat and dance to the entrancing rhythm! Jolieba has a unique and funky style & she is dynamic, fun, soulful & energetic. Beginning Graffiti Art and Mural Production

Instructor: Alex Kizu
This course provides the student with the understanding and skill necessary to design, plan, and complete individual and group art projects. The course will introduce students to different artistic mediums, materials and applications. We will examine the history and development of graffiti art and it’s relevance to society and the art world. We will also look at murals in our surrounding community and around the world. Our final project will be to compose a large group art piece.
Graffiti Arts II

Understand the history of graffiti and it’s place in society. We will also touch upon the topic of public versus private. As for the practical side, we will create a public artwork by working with the city, and surrounding communities.

All classes are FREE to students Ages 13 to 22 from low income families. If you are over 22 and you would like to take a class, you can become a Student Mentor within the class of your choice. All student mentors must pass be fingerprinted and pass a background check . Classes and Mentoring meetings will also be available.
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
Please contact Ricardo Perez at (213) 687-4278×19/ricardo@artsharela.org to sign up for classes. He will provide you with the forms you need to fill out. One form is to provide address and income verification, one form is a photograph release and the last form allows you to ride the van on field trips and if you need a ride home. You will also need to provide:
At least one current document that is dated, has your name and address. (Telephone, Utility, etc.) – date of bill- Documentation that verifies income (Benefit Check/Statement). All information received is confidential. If you have difficulty providing the necessary information, fill out as much of it as you can sign it and bring it in. No one will be turned away.
