IN TANDEM is a concert series presenting contemporary and experimental music and performance from duos in Los Angeles. This installment features:


Sara Cubarsi and Fahad Siadat premiering a new work for violin, voice, and live electronics, Amy Golden and Preston Haining premiering a new amalgamative archival work by Golden for voice, trumpet, and objects, and Eric Heep and Danny Clarke premiering a new work by Heep for speech and playback.

The Catalan violinist Sara Cubarsi is an active soloist, chamber musician and composer. Last February, she gave the Spanish première of Philip Glass’ Violin Concerto n.2 with the National Chamber Orchestra of Andorra. Sara is the winner of “El Primer Palau 2013” competition in Spain and the Prize of the radio channel Catalunya Música. As a composer and researcher, Sara is interested in microtonal string music.


Fahad Siadat is a performer and composer specializing in contemporary and experimental music, particularly improvisation and the use of extended vocal techniques. He currently sings with HEX vocal ensemble and the Contemporary Choral Collective of Los Angeles and directs the Contemporary Vocal Ensemble at CalArts.


Amy Golden is a composer, vocalist, and sculptor from Springdale, Arkansas living and working in Los Angeles. She creates works for instruments, voice, and objects, as well as sound and sculptural installations and performance art with a special focus on the relationship between sound and object, definitions of texture, magical realism, collections, and the female experience. She has worked collaboratively with visual artists, choreographers, and theater directors. Her works have been performed in concert halls, festivals, and galleries throughout the U.S.


Preston Haining is a trumpet player working in a broad range of styles, from New Orleans and big band jazz to graphic scores and free improvisation. A Downbeat Award winner, he recently returned to Los Angeles after an extensive North American tour with the traveling Broadway production of Cabaret the Musical.


Eric Heep is a experimental composer/artist based in Los Angeles. He received his BFA (2014) and MFA (2016) in Music Technology at California Institute of the Arts, and currently lives and performs in Los Angeles. His work generally includes incorporating existing technology in novel ways, creative coding, and experimental and procedural sound.


Danny Clarke is an experimental composer and creative coder. He’s just happy and excited to be included.
