Join Buzzsaw artists Jackie Amézquita and Yrneh Gabon as they discuss their artwork as social practice. Moderated by Anuradha Vikram, Artistic Director of 18th Street Art Center.
Jackie Amézquita is a Los Angeles based artist/activist who was born in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala and migrated to the United States in 2003. Her work explores the socio-geographical and political interactivity of different ethnic groups, and how discrimination against certain social groups negatively impacts a society’s overall productivity.
Yrneh Gabon was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and studied music and theater there. He worked in film, tv, music and the fashion industries before answering the call to create as a visual artist. His artistic journey is intertwined with human rights advocacy, social activism, community engagement, and awareness.
