Carillon Quartet: The Garden of Forking Paths
March 29, 2019 @ 8:00 PM - 9:30 PM
About
The Carillon Quartet is delighted to bring to life this concert inspired by Jorge Luis Borges’s short story: The Garden of Forking Paths (El Jardín de los Senderos que se Bifurcan). It is the first of two Borges-inspired concerts, the second of which, The Aleph, will be presented at the Santa Monica Public Library on May 15, 2019 as a part of their Soundwaves concert series.
The Quartet pays homage to the Argentinian genius by exploring Toru Takemitsu’s transcendental piece, Paths, from many angles and through many lenses. Within this labyrinth of possibilities, four trumpet players present versions of the piece that have never been heard before.
Within this journey listeners will also hear music by Michael Blake Watkins, Stefano Scodanibbio, and Pauline Oliveros.
