Gardens have played a key role in the evolution of art from the early 1860s through to the 1920s; With artists from Monet to Matisse being fascinated with them. It is a classic theme our artists have made fresh with new concepts and perspectives. Monet, the king of garden painters, once said he owed his painting “to flowers”. Gardens gave artists the freedom to break new ground and explore the ever-changing world around them.
