Get to Know: Lou Roy
February 6, 2020 @ 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM
About
LA-based singer-songwriter Lou Roy writes sharp coming-of-age songs that are as confessional as they are cutting. With a central focus on vocal performance, she explores contemporary folk with traces of jazz and soul music, inspired by the likes of Fiona Apple, Joni Mitchell, and The Beach Boys.
Earning praise from Earmilk, Refinery 29, The Deli Magazine & more, Lou’s debut EP “Your Friend,” grapples with shortcomings as a friend or lover, and revels in the beauty of good times. Soaring guitar and pedal steel with honey-sweet vocals could fool listeners into a comfortable lull, if not for biting lyrics and cutting arrangements. The EP exists in a netherworld between beauty and horror, often mistaking one for the other.
Come hear the EP and more new music at Art Share LA on February 6th. Lou will be playing with bassist/composer Sam Wilkes and drummer/songwriter Tamir Barzilay, with an opening set from LA-based indie genius Okudaxij. Ticket price includes a raffle ticket to win prizes. No bad vibes!
