Lily / LUNG in Los Angeles
January 19, 2019 @ 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM
About
Seattle chamber troupe Kin of the Moon presents the electroacoustic opera lily [bloom in my darkness] (music by Kaley Lane Eaton, libretto by felicia klingenberg, and choreography by Karin Stevens Dance) alongside the immersive multimedia work LUNG (co-conceived by Eaton and Karin Stevens).
Inspired by the true story of the composer’s great-grandmother Lily Isabel Bunny, a grieving orphan who left war-torn Britain in 1915 for a new life in Cascadia, lily presents us with a lone woman squeezed between hope and terror in the dark isolation of a mountain cabin.
LUNG immerses the audience in an array of speakers arranged like a room-sized respiratory system. Within these lungs, musicians and dancers use their bodies and instruments to breathe, seeking liberation through the voice.
Together these pieces explore issues of migration, connection, and finding one’s voice.
