About
Opening January 5th, the Our Art LA exhibition features emerging LA-based artists at Angel City Brewery.
The Our Art LA exhibition is a direct response to the systemic racism experienced not only in broad systems, but within the art business and community specifically. The works exhibited and available for purchase will be entirely made up of emerging Black and Brown artists local to the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Their work will be uncensored and unedited for public viewing.
“Public spaces like galleries shouldn’t simply provide for small, privileged pools of people. To tackle institutional racism, they need to look beyond tokenism and diversity projects and embrace conversations about decolonization. Only once these issues have been addressed can we experience the kind of long-lasting change that the art sector needs.” – Susuana Amoah (multi-media artist, activist & curator)
The purpose of the Our Art LA exhibition is not only the featured artworks, but the creation of community with like-minded, non-white identifying artists. This event will act as the commencement of increased networking events for the marginalized artist community promoted by emerging curator, Ree Magaña: increasing their exposure to collectors and curators, and proving the need for funding given to uplifting underrepresented artists.
