Associate Director

Art Share L.A.’s mission is to create access to and opportunity for artists by providing a creative environment for them to live, work, develop, perform, and exhibit. Art Share serves our city’s creative economy through an entrepreneurial approach to the nonprofit model that is in alignment with our mission. We focus our fundraising efforts on improving the quality and responsiveness of the programs we offer so that we may serve our community in unique and impactful ways, such as commissioning public artworks and cultivating an educational forum for creative exchange. Our building acts as an access point to the arts – with a theater, two galleries, 30 affordable housing units for artists, classrooms and artist studios – and the community we serve is as culturally diverse as the city in which we reside.

 

The Associate Director will report directly to and work closely with the Executive Director to oversee:

 

Operations and Project Management

  • Manage daily operations and planning including but not limited to:
    • Run weekly staff meetings and facilitate cross-departmental communication  to ensure cohesiveness, effective use of time and resources, and to achieve integrated execution of strategies and initiatives.
    • Recruit, supervise, and evaluate volunteer, internship, and fellowship programs. 
    • Schedule, manage, motivate, and develop volunteers, interns, and fellows. Encourage an overall spirit of teamwork and collaboration within Art Share’s personnel, setting an example at all times.
    • Manage new staff onboarding.
  • Manage annual statistics for all programs and ensure that statistics are collected. 

 

Development and Special Projects

  • Create and implement Development Plan, collaborate with Executive director to set annual and long-term strategic goals 
  • Oversee fundraising efforts in partnership with Executive Director, Board of Directors, Emerging Leaders, Gallery and Events Staff, artists, residents, and other internal support groups
  • Maintain and enhance computerized database (Flipcause) for use in identifying, soliciting, acknowledging, and stewarding donors
  • Manage Membership program, including mailing lists, renewals, solicitation, campaigns, reporting, and newsletter
  • Lead individual donor fundraising efforts (identify prospects, cultivate relationships, manage solicitations and nurture stewardship) 
  • Develop printed and website fundraising materials
  • Manage full production of Community and Donor Engagement Events, including the Spring Benefit, Community Block Party, and Special Events. May include some evening and weekend work.
  • Organize logistics, sponsorship activities and ticket sales for fundraising events

 

OTHER PROJECTS

  • Create an environment of all staff “pitching in” and lead with empathy
  • Support Executive Director in  facility and staff management when needed
  • Represent and articulate Art Share’s mission at community and networking events
  • Provide staff support for the Board of Directors and other Board Committees as assigned by the Executive Director
  • Other projects as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong desire to represent Art Share L.A. professionally while also conveying passionate commitment to the goals of promoting an artists’ economy. 
  • 3-5 years of Fundraising experience with demonstrated success across fund development, major gifts, and events. Knowledge of the philanthropic landscape, including relationships with funders and donors
  • Ability to act as a team player, work collaboratively with others, and rise to challenges in a genuinely dynamic work environment
  • Ability to balance day-to-day demands with big-picture vision and strategy
  • Demonstrated commitment to building community at the grassroots level 
  • Demonstrated ability to think independently, strategically, and creatively, and then implement plans in a timely manner
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a related field 
  • Knowledge of and prior experience in fund development with an arts-centered organization and/or an organization focused on social justice issues is desirable
  • Grant writing, proposal development, and planning for an organization of comparable budget size not required but recommended.
  • Experience with capital campaigns
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, fundraising tools (such as Flipcause), and email management systems (i.e. Mailchimp)

Volunteer Opportunities

Become an essential part of Art Share LA.

Event Support (On-call)

Provide logistical onsite event support including load-in, installation, and load-out.  Maintaining the safety of guests, facilitating check-in of guests, vendors, and artists, and upholding Art Share visitor policies. Responsibilities may also include basic maintenance of space, bar support, and merchandise sales.

Gallery Assistant (Weekly/Bi-weekly shifts)

Gallery assistants are the face of Art Share welcoming visitors to our space during public hours.  This includes providing information about all aspects of Art Share and its programs including exhibitions on view, upcoming events, membership benefits, and our organization’s history and mission.

Other duties include capturing attendance data, merchandise sales, and ensuring public spaces are clean and tidy.
